This book is completely wretched. I could barely finish it, but I did, and I did it for you. The humor is a no go from page one rehashing one old unfunny stereotype after another. For example, did you know women go to the bathroom in pairs and cast secret bathroom dimension spells? Ha, ha, ha I bet that one will have you chuckling well into the night.
What makes the "humor" even less charming is how the most of the book goes back and forth between a sad attempt jokes to being downright cruel, misogynistic, and mean. Women game to meet guys and will sleep their way around the table like some kind of dice rolling Yoko. It's a bummer that fat chicks game. Women don't fight unless it's in oil.
Guys don't get off that easy either. Men are portrayed as anti-social, basement dwelling, neckbeards who would one day like to touch a women, but don't realize that real ladies aren't like the ones in the gaming books.
I am a gamer and there are many many funny and interesting observations to be made about the gaming culture, maybe someday someone will write that book. This is not that book. I wish I could burn my .
So, for anyone who doesn't know, tongue-in-cheek means that the person is saying things that they don't really mean. Going in with that knowledge, this book is hilarious! I'm pretty sure that women don't really go to the bathroom together to cast spells, but this book puts forward a few theories about why they would, from a gaming point of view. The book has a distinct Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy feeling, but for gamers rather than for tourists.
